Our third Organ Festival will take place on Saturday 17 May 2008 in All Saints’ Church, Mill Street, Maidstone. Dr. David Flood, who is very supportive and enthusiastic for this venture, will be adjudicating again and the competition will start at 10.00 a.m. The three classes: Elementary, Intermediate and Advanced will reflect the grades and we are most fortunate in having sponsorship for these prizes. An “All Grades” class is being introduced this year sponsored by All Saints’ Church and this will test the ingenuity of the contestants who can select a piece of their own choice using only the flutes and strings of the whole organ, the swell oboe, the choir clarinet, nazard, flautina and twenty second, and the pedal bourdon, bass flute, octave flute and sub bass.
There will be a Buffet Lunch (£5) and Tea (£3) which all members may book in their usual way with Rosemary.
2007 Winner Matthew Jorysz at Maidstone with Jeremy Lloyd
Each year we have invited members to become Friends of the Festival for £10, which considerably helps the financing of the Festival. The value of advertisers in this regard is also vital and we hope members can encourage more advertising.
Brochures and flyers are now available so we look forward to you all helping to publicise this event and particularly to encourage any students (under the age of 21) you may know to enter.
Matthew Jorysz, our 2007 winner, will be giving his prize recital in Canterbury Cathedral on Friday 8 February at 6.15 p.m. Do please come and listen to this amazing young player and support him on his big day.
